This is old news, but back at a debate in January, Obama demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of a complex economic policy issue, noting that both a carbon tax and a cap-and-trade system of emissions control would have a cost to consumers. In contrast, consider John McCain: "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should."
